British American Tobacco South Africa is committed to the socio-economic transformation of South Africa.
Our company transformation is underpinned by the standards, values and principles contained in our Standards of Business Conduct, Business Principles, and BAT Ethos.
We believe that South Africa can achieve an adaptable, sustainable and growing economy if it harnesses the strengths of all its people and communities and uses diversity as a catalyst to solve social challenges and enhance economic performance.
BAT SA’s approach to Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) includes initiatives on employment equity, skills development, preferential procurement, enterprise and supplier development, as well as corporate social investment.
BAT SA understands the importance of empowerment for the upliftment of communities, and it’s for this reason that we have made strides in improving our scorecard and will continue to place our empowerment investment towards beneficiaries within our vlaue chain. This includes our employees, tobacco farmers and retailers.
We are very proud of the level 4 rating achieved for our 2019 performance. This was largely due to our comitment to assisting as well as growing small retailers in South Africa.
Our small business development intitiatives include our hawker programme, Siyaphambili, which seeks to provide hawkers with competitive pricing and access to BAT SA product, while never needing to leave their trading post. We also provide collateral that helps them improve the look and feel of their table or stand.
