At British American Tobacco South Africa, we recognise that getting the right start is crucial to building a successful career. This is how we approach your early training and career development.
The Management Trainee Programme is structured around the following components:
Induction
The
induction gives you the opportunity to learn about our Group objectives, products and markets. It introduces you to our values and culture, the role of each function and industry issues in your country. It is also designed to help you understand your role in the organisation and the performance standard we expect you to reach. Through it, you will also develop a network of useful contacts.
Functional Development
The Management Trainee Programme includes your
functional development which is designed to ensure that you quickly develop expertise and contribute within your chosen function. This crucial building block of your development will lay the foundation for your further progress at British American Tobacco, by making sure that you gain the skills and competencies you will need in order to deliver the results expected of a British American Tobacco manager.
Management Leadership Skills
You will develop the
management leadership skills you will need in your future roles with both formal training and on-the-job experience. And you will have the opportunity to put these skills into practice in preparation for the move into your first management role.
Business Awareness
We also expect you to develop
business awareness, an understanding of the overall business and the role played by each function. In other words, we want you to understand the business beyond your own functional and geographical area of responsibility. We want you to question our existing ways of working and to bring positive change to our business. We will provide you with opportunities to challenge our practices, a receptive audience and the feedback you’ll need to build your knowledge.
Performance Appraisal
We monitor your success through regular performance appraisals. We give you regular and constructive feedback, formally every 6 months and informally every 6 weeks. This ensures that you are aware of the standards you should aim for, and also that we can tailor your development to your needs.
